Community Support Staff

Gil D’Amore, BSW, Community Support Specialist

Gil currently serves as a Community Support Specialist in the Tampa Bay, Florida community and has worked with The Bindu Institute since July of 2019.  He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from Saint Leo University. He is a veteran of the U.S. Army and Florida Army National Guard. He has worked with Boy Scouts of America for 10 years training adult leaders. He also worked as a board member/advisor for a Veteran support facility; Veterans Heat Factory and with Circle of Veterans & Families; Counseling and assisting homeless veterans. He was also a Support Team Counselor for four years at Pasco County Stand Down; assisting homeless veterans. Gil also owned his own business for 15 years called A World of Maps, Inc.                            

 

When Gil was 34, he was struck by a car, spent 8 months in the hospital and consequently, his leg was amputated. This experience has given Gil a unique perspective with more compassion, empathy, and understanding of what some of the veterans may have endured. He is an advocate of multi-cultural therapies and modalities that have stood the test of time, such as Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Annam, and other techniques geared toward spiritual mindfulness.
